Blacktown Garage Party
Australian Exclusive
Blacktown Garage Party throws open the roller door and welcomes everyone inside. For two lively days, the Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre becomes a stylised backyard hangout as artists Sione Monu and Salote Tawale build an installation shaped by the spirit of the garage and decorated by the community. Picture corrugated iron, lavalava, tarps, and those slightly faded Christmas lights from 2003.
For Pasifika families across Sydney, the garage is far more than a spot to leave the car. It is a warm, lived-in meeting ground where generations gather, share food and stories, sing, tease, laugh, and mark life’s milestones.
Live music and karaoke from some of Western Sydney’s finest will set the place humming, followed by Edith Amituanai’s performance Siren Boyz, created with local Pasifika youth in a whirl of bike lights and erupting sound.
Visitors can join hands-on making sessions led by Sione Monu and the Powerhouse Parramatta WE’VE program, then step into a special family photo studio where you can dress in your White Sunday finest and have your portrait taken by Edith Amituanai.
The flavour is distinctly Pasifika, yet the celebration welcomes everyone. Grab a milk crate, settle in, and join the gathering.
