Post-Orientalist Express by Eun-Me Ahn – Sydney Festival 2026
Australian Exclusive
Following acclaimed runs in Paris, Berlin, and Seoul, South Korean choreographer Eun-Me Ahn brings her dazzling reinterpretation of Asian cultures to Sydney Festival. Renowned internationally as the enfant terrible of Seoul, Ahn draws inspiration from Okinawa, Bali, and Manila, transforming these traditions into bold, dynamic dance vocabularies that both honor and playfully challenge stereotypical ideas of Asian culture.
Featuring a vibrant ensemble of eight dancers, the performance dazzles with over 90 striking costumes—each designed by Ahn herself—that flood the stage with colour, humour, and wit. The production is contemporary dance as cultural commentary: provocative, imaginative, and unapologetically audacious.
Ahn, one of Asia’s leading avant-garde artists, fuses her knowledge of Korean shamanistic practices with New York modern dance training to craft works that question and expand notions of identity and heritage. This Australian season offers a rare chance to witness her internationally celebrated artistry live.
