Turandot Opera by Puccini
What is born at night and dies by dawn? What burns without light, and what ice glows with fire?
Princess Turandot never invited suitors to her court – yet they came. She warned them all with riddles sharp enough to kill, daring anyone to pierce her icy heart. But what happens when someone finally solves the puzzle and reaches the woman behind the legend?
International director and choreographer Ann Yee reimagines Turandot in a breathtaking new production for Australia’s national Opera Conference. With towering sets, immersive visuals, and stunning choreography, this spectacular staging weaves together the courage of Turandot, the pain of her ancestors, and the selfless love of another woman into a powerful story of resilience and transformation.
Puccini’s sweeping score carries audiences through the opera’s vast emotional landscapes—from the thunderous choruses to the spine-tingling heights of “Nessun dorma.”
Two of Australia’s leading dramatic sopranos, Rebecca Nash (fresh from the Metropolitan Opera, New York) and Anna-Louise Cole (star of The Ring Cycle), share the title role. They are joined by acclaimed tenor Young Woo Kim alongside Diego Torre and Rosario La Spina, under the batons of Henrik Nánási, Nicholas Milton, Andrea Battistoni, and Tahu Matheson.
A feast for the senses, Turandot fuses myth, music, and movement into an unforgettable theatrical experience — a spectacular highlight of the season that will leave audiences spellbound.
