For the adults there’s plenty to look at and read and for the kids there are a few fun interactive activities to explore. My son loved them all. \nI highly recommend you check it out if you have kids or grandkids under the age of 8 or if you’re just a big kid at heart or admirer of beautiful stories/illustrations like me. \nIt’s free and on until July 2027 but don’t leave it till the last minute! \nThe State Library of NSW also hosts a number of other excellent exhibitions (not really suitable for young children though). \n#pamelaallen #pamelaallenexhibition #statelibraryofnsw #lauraharrispublishing #penguinbooks #penguinkidsbooks

SUMMARY:The Shiralee - Play
DESCRIPTION:A Love Letter to the Open Road: The Shiralee Takes the Stage\nThere’s something about the open road that calls to the soul – the vast skies\, the red dust\, and the promise of something new just beyond the horizon. Bathed in the honeyed light of an outback sunset\, The Shiralee invites audiences to step into a story as hauntingly beautiful as the landscape that inspired it. \nFor the first time ever\, the Australian classic The Shiralee is being reimagined for the stage. Adapted by the acclaimed playwright and actor Kate Mulvany\, this sweeping new production transforms D’Arcy Niland’s iconic tale into a lyrical\, heart-wrenching journey of love\, loss\, and resilience on the fringes of mid-century Australia. \nAt its heart is Macauley – a rough-edged swagman with a restless spirit — and his young daughter\, Buster\, who has been living a neglected life in Sydney after her parents’ separation. When Macauley discovers the truth of her circumstances\, he takes her on the road with him. What follows is an unlikely\, tender\, and deeply human story about a father and daughter finding each other amid the loneliness of the open road. \nFollowing the success of The Dictionary of Lost Words\, director Jessica Arthur returns to the Sydney Theatre Company with an extraordinary cast featuring Mulvany herself\, alongside Josh McConville\, Aaron Pedersen\, and rising star Ziggy Resnick. Together\, they bring to life a story that hums with the poetry of the land and the ache of connection in an unforgiving world. \nThe Shiralee is more than a stage adaptation — it’s a love song to Australia’s vast landscapes\, to the quiet strength of family\, and to the resilience that binds us all. \nBook here

SUMMARY:Phar Lap : The Electro-Swing Musical
DESCRIPTION:WORLD PREMIEREDirected by Sheridan Harbridge \nHold your horses – this isn’t your average musical biopic. Phar Lap gallops onto the stage with a raucous mix of absurdist humour\, electro-swing flair\, and big-hearted Aussie spirit. Forget the lavish puppetry and dazzling special effects – this production trades spectacle for sheer imagination. One actor slips on tap shoes instead of horseshoes to bring Australia’s most legendary racehorse to life\, and the result is pure theatrical magic. \nAt its heart\, Phar Lap is a rags-to-riches tale about an awkward\, gangly horse from New Zealand and his hapless\, down-on-his-luck trainer. Together\, they defy the odds to chase Melbourne Cup glory — and the nation’s heart. Along the way\, they face gambling scandals\, double-crosses\, an attempted shooting\, and even a sugar addiction (yes\, really). It’s high stakes\, high drama\, and surprisingly true to history. \nFuelled by a brassy\, toe-tapping electro-swing score inspired by everyone from Duke Ellington to Daft Punk\, Phar Lap blends old-school showmanship with a contemporary pulse. The music leaps from the racetrack to the dance floor\, delivering infectious energy that’s impossible to resist. \nSo pop the champagne\, saddle up\, and get ready for a wild ride — Phar Lap is off and racing! \n–> Book Tickets Here

SUMMARY:The True History of the Life and Death of King Lear and His Three Daughters
DESCRIPTION:The True History of the Life and Death of King Lear and His Three Daughters\nKing Lear – Belvoir Theatre \nShakespeare’s towering tragedy comes alive in a bold\, electrifying Belvoir production\, anchored by the formidable presence of Colin Friels as Lear. Raw\, powerful\, and uncompromising\, this is a version of the classic that feels immediate\, visceral\, and unflinchingly human. \nIt should be simple. Lear is ready to retire: he will divide his kingdom among his three daughters\, each will govern in harmony\, he will live out his days in peace\, and the transition of power will be smooth. But the universe has other plans. Loyalty\, love\, and ambition collide in a storm of deceit\, betrayal\, and heartbreak\, sending Lear – and everyone around him- into a spiral of chaos and revelation. \nThis is a play about the fragility of power\, the consequences of hubris\, and what happens when the trappings of privilege\, education\, and civilisation are stripped away. It forces us to confront the human condition in all its complexity: pride\, folly\, desire\, and mortality. With its potent mix of emotional intensity\, psychological depth\, and unrelenting drama\, Belvoir’s King Lear is not just a performance – it’s an experience that lingers long after the final curtain. \n–> More Info / Book Tickets Here
