A new play by Mark St. Germain, adapted from the memoir by Eddie Jaku

Following acclaimed seasons in North America and the UK, The Happiest Man on Earth comes to Australia for its premiere at the Sydney Opera House. Starring Anton Berezin and directed by Therèsa Borg, this moving solo performance tells the extraordinary true story of Holocaust survivor Eddie Jaku, adapted from his international bestselling memoir.

Born in Germany in 1920, Eddie survived imprisonment in Buchenwald and Auschwitz, a death march, and the loss of his family before finding refuge in Sydney, where he chose to live with hope, kindness and gratitude. His powerful message — that “happiness is a choice” — remains as urgent and inspiring as ever.

Praised as “deeply moving” and “gripping” by critics across the UK and US, this production is a stirring testament to resilience, remembrance and the strength of the human spirit.
